Did you do anything special to get them to breed? I've never had luck with it.

Are you gonna make one of those cool toothpick urchins for them?

The male has gone into hiding as of today....so I'll hae to try and flush him out in about 2 weeks. I know 100% sure they bred last night, so I have a good timeframe. The plan is to pull dad...otherwise I'll just have to try and save the babies if/when they hatch. There's really nothing in the tank that would eat them (aside from perhaps the pair of long-tentacle anemones), so odds are good I'll be able to simply pull them out.

Mike, I'll likely keep them in a hang-on breeder net and will put in some sort of urchin-substitute.

This small success right now gave me a bit of enthusiasm...picked up six sexy shrimp today to add to my breeding program...hopefully I'll be posting in a few weeks that I'm raising these as well!

Admittedly, this is a pretty crappy picture, but the male is a little camera-shy right now and has taken to the corners and recesses of the tank, so I think this may be as good as it gets for a while...you can see the obviously swollen jaw on dad here. Counting down the days to release!

mind if I ask a couple of questions...

1) where did you get the fish?
2) where did you get the shrimp?
3) what size is your tank and how much LR does it have?

Thanks, I am hoping to follow in your footsteps with both the bangers and the shrimp.

1: the banggais came from some folks up in Cincinnati at the frag swap on 10/15. Thought I had picked a trio, but looks like I've got a reverse trio (2 males).

2: the shrimp I hand-picked myself in Atlanta from Sun Pet. I've never had any luck with any I've had shipped in before, but these ones had been there for a while and looked good. They've colored up to their normal tones and all six appear to be doing great so far in the tank.

3: these are in a 155g bowfront with about 200 lbs of live rock.

The cardinal have free reign of the tank, while the shrimp are kept in a Kritter Keeper with a clump of chaeto in there for them. They get fed a shrimp mixture every day.

Well, countdown has begun from 11/11, so the range I'm looking for release in is 11/29-12/4 (18-23 days). They're born (barring any problems) fully past metamorphosis, and I would think they'd be ready to go at about 2-3 months of age.

I'll have to pull the Kritter Keeper to take some pictures of the shrimp. So far so good though, all six are still alive. As soon as I can I'll get something up.
