Skimmer Location

After reading tons of articles and ads on skimmers I have one question. Can a hang on model be hung on the side of the sump instead of the tank itself? If so, does it require any special parts or equipment?

No reason it can't be hung on the side of your sump as long as your sump can withstand the skimmer your going to use as far as wieght. Are you planning on making your sump a refugium and skimming off the side?

I had a hang on skimmer in my sump for a few months. Instead of hanging it on the sump I sat it in the sump and it worked fine.

yeah, better in the sump than hanging on the side

i had a CPR bakpak and hung it on the side of my sump once. but the water level was loo low (as a reserve in case of powerfailure and back siphoning). so i lengthened the hose, but there wasn't enough head pressure to drive it properly. so you may need to upgrade the pump.
