Quick one...Is the KH test that came with my "TetraTest Marine AnalySet" test kit the same thing that i've been told to test for while tuning in my calcium reactor - dKH?

Thanks!

Andy

Yes, it should be.
From research, dKH for german? deutsche Karbonat Härte. And we just shorten it to KH.

Although I might be wrong.:D

Yes. Alkalinity may be measured and reported as either dKH or meq/L The numbers, although different, tell you the same thing, you jest need to be certain which unit of measurement you compare to. e.g. 10.2 dKH equals 3.66 meq/L

As long as it measures KH in terms of dKH (which is degrees of carbonate hardness).

so what would the ideal reading be (approx.) for a reef tank (btwn 350-450 M/L??)?

Thanks!

7-12 dKH (2.5-4.0meq/l)

If your number is really big, it may be in ppm carbonate--divide by 50 to get meq/l.

I just bought a Hagen test kit and began testing my KH.

According to the Kit, I get a reading about 330 mg/L (ppm). (I am assuming it is in ppm -- the kit implies that mg/L and ppm are the same thing.) Ie. it take 33 drops to get the color to turn yellow time 10 = 330.

So, do I divide 330 ppm by 50 to get 6.6 Meg/L?

Is meg/L different from mg/L?

What is considered a good range? The Hagen kit says that saltwater should be between 105 and 125 mg/L (ppm). So am I really at 3 times that limit?

I guess I am totally confused now.

mg/l and ppm are the same. to go from ppm to meq/l, divide by 50. Ideally, it should be 2.5-4.0 meq/l or something similar to that.
