View Full Version : 2 pumps on 1 bulkhead... possible?

Hi all.

My system's been running for over a year now. Return pump is a Mag12.

I'm adding another tank on the above floor. My bulkhead on the sump for the return pump is 2". I was wondering whether I could TEE off that bulkhead, and run 2 pumps as returns to 2 different tanks.

Basically it would be a 2" bulkhead to a 2" TEE. One side of the TEE would be for the current Mag12 return, and the other side of the TEE would be for a PCX40 going to the above floor.

Both pumps have 3/4" intakes. I'm thinking that with a 2" TEE I have more than enough water flow to provide both pumps.

Am I right?

Thanks,

Why not just use one pump going to both tanks?

ONEMANBAND,

I already considered using just one pump, but in the end it was better to use two.

So now getting back to my question, can this be done or not?

Thanks,

The 2 inch bulkhead will work, it can flow more water than both 3/4 lines. I still do not see why 2 pumps would be better when you consider the electricity bill, noise, heat, etc.

ONEMANBAND,

Thanks, that's what I'm thinking; I should be ok with 2 3/4" intakes on a 2" bulkhead. I was worried of the possibility of cavitation or something...

As to why 2 pumps, Here's why:
