View Full Version : Can a starfish get ick??
I was wanting to get a cc star, but right now I have both of my fish in my q-tank because of an ick problem. I'am going to keep my main tank fishless for a while, but in the mean time, I always wanted to get a star and was wondering if it would be ok to put him in their now. I have a 120 gallon FOWLR, spiney box puffer and a maroon clown and misc. crabs and snails. THANKS :D

he meant "No the CC star will not get ick."
however, do you really want a cc star in your tank?
if you have a reef tank, it'll eat EVERYTHING!

Sorry DNO...
Starfish can't get ICK so you are safe to have it in the tank as long as you're not medicating the tank with anything.
Also...as long as it's a FOWLR tank you're ok...but as joejdsn stated...in a REEF tank...Choc. Chips will eat EVERYTHING in the tank.
Do some research (some provided below) ;) into the starfish and it's needs, and if you have what it takes to care for it...then go for it!
************************************************
Protoreaster nodosus - Chocolate Chip Star
Min tank = 30Gal
Easy to keep - hardy
NOT REEF SAFE
Feed items like thawed cocktail shrimp approx. twice/week
Docile - gets along with other fish
Active - will roam around tank...WILL get into ANYTHING and EVERYTHING possible.
HTH - Good Luck,
Cool, thanks a lot everyone for the info I think I'am going to get one. Thanks again.

DNO,
I've had a cc star in my FOWLR setup for about 6 months, and I've had no problems. In my opinion, it was a great addition.
