Ok after being on here I've heard alot of different things. What i want to know now is; what do i need to start a tank without a wet\dry. Can someone tell me what i need to run a Coral Reef tank. I was going to go with the wet\dry, skimmer lights,LR and some reef safe fish. After being on here it seems I'm going to wrong way about it.


Can someone tell me what i would need to run a 40g tank. Please list all Supplies, my LFS won't give this info out without a fight lol.

Ok, here's my take on the basics of just a tank (you could easily get a list )

Deep sand bed
protein skimmer
GOOD live rock
powerheads
heaters
good lighting
sump (not a requirement, but a plus as it hides your equipment)

Some extra's include
RO/DI unit
wavemaker
calcium reactor

MUST HAVE PATIENCE :)

What Nagel said, plus:

-at least one good book
-one or two test kits (alkalinity, calcium, for the long run and optionally ammonia, nitrate and nitrite while you set up the tank)
- a 4" fan or two for your canopy if your going to use MH lights
- a good return pump
