have an established 55 .have scarlet.black&white.blue legged hermits&an emerald crab.i find pieces of scarlets once in awhile and they are the larger ones.is this natural attrition or when they molt is my lemon peel angel destroying them (he is a little too curious but have never seen him eating the pieces).i don't seem to lose the other crabs.thanks beach

It's very likely your crabs are molting. They will often hide for a day or two to allow their new "body" to harden, and the old molt looks a lot like a dead crab.

Unless you see guts and that sort of stuff coming out of the ends of the pieces you find, the hermits were probably just molting like hawkdl2 said.

I agree with the others that it's probably a molt. The lemonpeel shouldn't be bothering them; it may, but that would be unusual.

The other possibility is the black&whites. I've seen our B&Ws fight with the scarlets before. If you have a couple of monster B&Ws, they could be causing some trouble.
