dead snails

a week ago I bought 12 snails for my 55gal. today I looked and they were all dead. for all I know, they could have died the day after I got them. what should I do?

do as stated above, make sure everything is good.. although i seem to always have store bought snails die..never seem to be able to keep them alive over a month..while i have all kinds of little white ones that some out at night.... But i have a conch that ive had for over a year and i have hermit crabs doing just fine.

I just added more live rock so the amonia went up again(.4) all i have in the tank is 2 damsels

what kind of snails? that happened to me with trochus sanils they didnt want to flip over

I can't seem to keep the Astrea snails alive for an extended period of time. I have some larger Mexican Turbos and hermits that are doing just fine. My hermits are all sporting new shells after the Astrea die off :)
