I am getting playsand from lowes and I was wondering what would be the best way to wash it? Thanks

i just dump some sand into a 5 gal bucket, bring it to the tub and add some water and mixt it up then dump the water and repeat till it is clean.

Definitly make sure that water comes clearbefore you dump it in the tank. Otherwise you will have a hell of a dust storm.

You can clear the duststorm with a mechanical filter. A lot easier than actively washing the entire thing. :D

don't mean to butt in , but can you put play sand on top of crushed coral?

is the southdown, cause regular play sand is not good for reef

In general you want the fine material in the sand. I'm not crazy about mixing CC and Playsand and finally it is becoming very hard to get Southdown or its clones. I prefer aragonite sand but silica will do if it is all you can find. Find out a whole lot more about sand and the DBS form the Sandman (http://www.rshimek.com/reef/sediment.htm) himself.

Yes it is fine to use playsand.
