Wow wow, I decided to go out and look at some pods right now and what I saw freaked me out. My coral looks like its melting or something but in fact its just inflated, but I've never seen it this big! Is something wrong? Oh yea, does anyone know what kind it is either? It seems to be primarily nocturnal. Its pretty much all skin and bones during the day and inflates during night.

Could be about to spawn or digesting food. I would not worry.

some type of plate, maybe? If it is, then this is completely normal.

Looks like a fungia sp. to me.

Hi,

It's a plate coral. Nothing wrong with it, they go through different types of inflation/deflation. This type of coral can inflate itself and move across a sand bed. My plate displays tenticals all day, some don't.

Deinitely a fungia. Lots of LPS puff up at night when the lights go off. Many also protrude small feeder tentacles aroung the mouth when they do this.
