Cleaning equipment

I have a couple items that I used on a freshwater tank, ie. thermometer, power heads. Is there a specific way that I should clean or treat them before I use them on my reef setup?

I use vinegar to clean just about everything. If it's really crusty use full strength, if not 50/50 with water works fine.

If you used copper in the prior tank you may not want to use anything that could have absorbed copper btw.

Now that I am thinking of it I did use copper in the in the tank. Would the powerheads absorbed it?
