I got this piece at a frag swap the other day as a piece of torch coral. Most of the torch corals I've seen have smaller tenticles, so I'm not exactly sure what this is. There are two seperate heads (one is in back of the other) and it's colored w/pink tips and pink/green stalks. The stalks are about 1.5" long when the lights are on. Any idea?

Euphyllia Parancora. Aka: Hammer.

I thought hammer had a different shape on the tips and colored green, but I could easily be wrong.

I agree. It looks like a hammer although not a particularly bulbous specimen.

There is actually a related species to the hammer that looks inbetween E. ancora and E. glabrescens, E. cristata (http://whelk.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/html/101-200/Species%20pages/146.htm).

No, there are several different color morphs. There are also variations on the shape of the tips.

agreed with blastomussaman and Steven - these are normal tips of parancora, and cristata is very rare with a very different and obvious skeleton - highly excert septa and it is not a "cross" between the two at all.

I thought it resembled hammer more than torch coral. It seems to be happy so far and I look forward to it growing. Thanks for your time fellas.
