My problem is I have a MaxiJet600 hooked up to my auto top off. When the float switch turns the pump off a siphon is created and keeps on pumping. The MJ is sitting at the bottom of a ten-gallon reservoir and I know a check valve will not help my problem because it keeps the flow from coming back up. I do have an air gap at the end of the tube so I am left thinking how to fix this problem. Any ideas will help thanks.

I had the same problem and I didn't know how to adress it... In the end It would've worked but your top-off reservoir would need to be lower than the sump (if you have a sump and are toping it off). I ended up using something else to achieve my top-off, and I like it much better than a pump. I used a push-valve and a selenoid like I saw a guy do here in the DIY forum I think. I don't have the link handy but search about selenoid and you'll get it.

Yep it is going to my sump but there is noway to move the reservoir. I've read about push-valve and a selenoid but I was looking at a cheap way to fix the problem.Nothing in this hobby is cheap so I guess I just have to do it. Thanks

TonyQ : Just make the tube do a higher loop before going down to the sump... it should break the siphon.

I just have the water drop a short distance from the supply line into the tank. I'm using a peristaltic pump, though, so that might make a difference.

Of course it does... this kind of pump can not cause a siphon, even if you wanted it to do so...

I fix the problem and all it cost me was 56 cents so am pretty happy all it took was a tee and some tubing. Thanks guys for the ideas.
