what should I know to keep clams in my tank?
I am planning to buy a couple of them. I have 29G reef tank with few smal corals, chromis, a tiny blue tang and lots of live rocks.
I dose B-Ionic and reef vital dna every other day.
Any advice will be helpful for me.
Thanks.

Oh, I forgot to say that I have 175W MH with 12K bulb and amiracle 75 wet/dry.

They need ALOT of light, 175w wouldnt be enough in my opinion, and they like lots of calcium and a solid alkalinity. and solid levels across the spectrum :)

What do you think? :p if you tap the glass hard enough, the clam will close, imagine a sting from that anenome?

you will be fine with any mh. i dont think its the amount of watts what matter is the spectrum ( dont quote me on that i am a lil bit buzz3d ) i have a derasa in a 5.5 gln and i only have 36w of power compacts. the derasa is the easiest to keep and it does well under pc. i read up on it before i got them. if you get them small you are going to have to feed them. i would suggest to get them 3inches and larger.

when i had my old tank up. i never dosed calcium or any other supplements. i did a weekly water change and all was good. if you do weekly water changes that should be sufficient the water change replaces all the lost calcium.

i dont know if an anemone will hurt the clam but my clam is right next to my frogspawn and the tentacles touch its mantle all day. i dont see any thing wrong with its mantle. i even move the clam a bit aways from the frogspawn and it works its way back. ( he must really like that spot. anyhow, you should be fine with what your doing and the lights you have . if you have allot of sps and are going to get a couple of clams. i would suggest to test your calcium because the clams and sps do suck up allot of calcium. let us know how it go's

heres my deresa.

here he is next to the frogspawn when the frogsawn is fully extended it covers a bit of its mantle

I agree with SOREVIV476. I have a derasa under T-5's. It is thriving. A maxima would do fine under your MH also. I think you should even be able to keep a crocea up high. Like SOREVIV476 said, try to get a clam at least 3". Once they attain that size it becomes photosynthetic and there will no longer be any need to direct feed it.

Good luck. They are a beautiful addition to any tank. BTW, I don't dose anything either, but I am very religious about my weekly water changes.

Thank you all for kind advice.
Let me ask you one more. What kind clam should I begin with?
I like to go with easiest and cheapest one first. Corocea needs stronger light? Your deresa looks great. I don't think I have seen it in real. Which clam is hardest to keep and most expensive?

The crocea would be the most challenging to keep. Probably the most expensive too. A nice derasa or maxima would be good. I'd go with the maxima, more variations of colors.
