detrivore kit

[Semi newbie]

Should I order a detrivore kit or shpould I try to get some sand from LFS? I started my tank with Aragonite, added southdown and am not seeing much in the way of life. I recently sifted some of the larger particles out of my tank and I am kind of concerned that I may have messed things up. Why I don't just leave well enough alone is beyond me. If you all think I can get sand from LFS to do the same as ordering a kit I would prefer to do this as the kits are really expensive and I can think of many other things I would like to spend my money on. your best bet would be get with people like kevin and gary and ask nicley if you could have a care package of worms and bugs :) (and gary's wonderful little starfishs from the sump... your bed will be alive in no time :)
