lighting problem

Light switch does not turn on the light immediately. Must turn off and on the switch a few times ...or let it sit in the on position for ~5 mins then turn off then on to get the light to come on. Checked all wires and connections and everything is fine. Any suggestions (besides getting a new hood :) )

sounds like the ballast is going bad.

If it's a normal output flourescent hood, it could be the starter or the ballast. If you have power compact flourescents or VHOs, then it's probably a bad ballast.

Where can I get a new ballast for a 12g NC DX? How much are they? Mine just went bad too.
