Ok I have done a TON of ready on DIY sump systems and have set everything up as far as what I would need to get this working right. The only problem I have is with the size of the sump that I am planning to use. Because of time and space with my current 55G display tank, the only size that I seem to be able to SQUEEZE into the cabinet openings is a 10G tank. I was wondering if going with such a small tank, would it even be worth the time and money to go this way or should I just stay with my canister filter system. Thanks in advance for everyones help

The sump has nothing to do with "filtration" unless you have a skimmer or refugium down there.. A 10 gallon tank I have seen used before. You would need to put a bubble trap in it. Why not put two 10 gallons in there and connect them with a bulkhead or something similar? 20 gallons

Yes, its well worth it. Just make sure you measure your skimmer and return pump so you know they will fit. You might have to figure something out about at least one baffle to cut down the likelihood of bubbles too. And your return tube (this is very important) “MUST have a siphon break at or just above water level so you don’t overflow your 10g sump.

well I have a HO skimmer right now and I planned on doing a refugium with the setup. Also I never thought about hooking 2 10g's together with the bulkhead. Anyone have any DIY guide for something like that?

Any sump is better then none... even if you don't run a fuge, adding some water volume and a place to hide your skimmer and a heater makes it worth it in alot of cases.

Check out melevs reef site for some good sump ideas.
