I'm currently running (2) two-65w PC Fixtures on a 55 gallon tub (30 long by 24 deep). One fixture has an Actinic and a 50/50, the second has a 50/50 and a 10k. I figure that total wattage is about 240, but I think it appears low considering the depth of the tank. I have softies now, but would like to add in a few LPS or even some SPS at the top.

I'm considering a new fixture to replace the existing ones. The new fixture runs two-65w PC (Actinic) and two-150w MH HQI at 10k.

I would appreciate comments and inputs prior to making the investment! Given the tank length of 30 inches, I think that more than 150's would be overkill. Also could step up to 20k HQI bulbs.

Thanks in advance ... need to make a decision.

There is a thread on here that waterkeeper did about lighting that is really good. Sorry I don't have a link, but if you do a search on waterkeeper you'll see it.

For 24" of water, I would get 250's to get all the way to the bottom. 150's should be good for the top 20" of your tank. There is no hard fast rule... just opinions.

Here is the link (http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=550860) my young Padawan. ;)

I'm inclined to think that the 150 watt MH would probably work in most cases. You can always place any light loving corals up higher on the rockwork if it seems to be declining when placed on the bottom.

Data? I included Data? That would portend that I actually did RESEARCH. I really try to present dataless arguments when writing a thread which keeps my stuff beyond my critic's reproach. :D
