what should my PH pen show, if calibrated correctly, for a fresh batch of mixed saltwater that has had a powerhead in it for 24 hours?

What about alkalinity?

These questions are asked in the context of a salinity of 1.026

I thought it should have normal pH (around 7.9 to 8.4). Alkalinity should be in line also, IIRC.

depends on the salt you use

IIRC = ?

If it is instant ocean salt.

I use Instant Ocean and I've tested a newly mixed batch set at 1.025. I don't have a pH pen but with my chemical test I get a 7.8 pH reading and pretty low calcium ( 350). High KH. I got a 16. This was with RO water.

Here is an article on overall Water Parameters (http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rhf/index.php). It covers all the key chemistry needed for one's tank. When testing new batches of salt mix it is best to allow them to age overnight if at all possible. The allows equilibrium to be established.

IIRC=If I recollect correctly. ;)
