i have a question regarding feeding my hammer. i have had this guy in my 10 gallon nano for over a year and half without supplemental feeding and although he hasnt grown much or split or anything, he looks great and is my favourite coral in the tank. i have recently expanded my tank into a 30 gallon tank and now start to experiment. so i decided to try and feed my hammer. i took a piece of frozen food, thawed it and gently put it on. the hammer ate it and 6 hours later it 'threw' it up. is this normal? do they digest what they need and expel what they dont?

How big was the meal you gave him? They will spit out food that is too large for them to digest.

hmm maybe that was the problem, it was like a quarter the size of a cocktail shrimp. it did have it inside for like 6 hours, so maybe it digested what it could and expeled what was too much? whats the right amount to feed?

hammer's have really small mouths. go for a like 1/3 of the size that you last fed.
