I have a 55 gallon fish only tank 60 lbs of liverock, urchin skimmer,bio wheel filter
and a 5 gallon sump I have a growth of red slime like algea any one know what it is and how I can get rid of it? I use only RO/DI water in the tank and do 50% water changes every 6 weeks.I have a wrasse 2 clowns and a royal gramma many crabs and snails

It's probably cyanobacteria. A search should turn up a lot of ideas. Here's a few to consider:

1) Check your feeding levels. Extra food becomes algae.
2) Increase the flow. Cyano sometimes recedes with more flow
3) Try adding a refugium for growing and harvesting macroalgae
4) Try using PhosBan or a similar PO4 absorber.

Definately. I do all 4 of these things and never had any red algae

If all that fails, you can purchase red slime remover that will rid your tank of most, if not all, of your problem within 48 hours.
