i couldn't get him to stand up! it was SO HOT here yesterday, all he wanted to do was lay down!

<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y203/Ninapearl/oz1.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">

his sister, "taz", was nowhere to be found. she is such a hyper dog, she runs constantly. she was here one minute and gone the next! she's a cutie, all red, and still a pup. i'll see if i can tie her down for pics today. :)

He's a looker! All these pictures are going to make me want another one! I'm really wanting an aussie ;). Of course if I had TWO of them the lounge would never see the end of dog pictures.

He's a beautiful black tri!! I'm surprised, I was expecting more of a "working coat" which is longer and thinner, very little if any, undercoat. He's got much more of a show coat. I can't wait to see how Aspen grows into his coat-his dad has a wonderful show coat. see?

His mom's got more of a working coat, not so thick, but not long like a working coat.

:eek2: First thing I thought of when I saw that picture was "Boy I bet that's a pain to get the burrs out of!" Exactly the reason why you don't see "fluffy" coats much around here ;). You'd spend all your time picking burrs out and its a lot harder to find the ticks.

BTW, Emily I was going to ask. How much did you pay for Aspen? Just curious is all...:)

I paid 600$ from what I would call a mid level breeder. The top breeder in our area asks 900$ for pet puppies and has a 6-12 month waiting list. And Dino you are exactly right-these dogs were bred to work in the midwest, Timber's coat was all working dog lines and burdocks, foxtails, etc would just brush out of her coat. But she looked sick compared to the show dogs when I took her to the shows. People who know the breed said she was a perfect example of working dog lines vs. show dog lines. If/when ;) you go looking for an aussie there are more working lines out your way. The drawback to that is they have the working dog personality too. All business, not much of a buddy more of a partner. Like Timber, she always gave us the distinct impression she was humoring us by living here. :)

:D One of the things I love about Harley's coat. Its short and straight, burrs come right out. Most of the dogs you see around here are so called "working" dogs, because its still largely rural around here. You don't see many dogs outside of the major herding breeds: Aussies (cattle and shep), BC's, and a GSD here or there. Though it isn't unusual to see somebody going down the road with 8-10 aussies in the back ;).

emily, those dogs are gorgeous! the red/white one reminds me much of taz, although taz is all red.

ozzie is SOOOOO smart! he will readily obey commands given by even the smallest visitors here. it's nothing to see the kids outside playing and the little 6 year old niece tell him to "sit" or "lay down" and he obeys in an instant.

for being an intact male, as is simon, they get along great. simon seems to worship ozzie and will follow him around like he's the little brother. too cute!

you guys who have problems with burs in long coats, there's a product called "healthy hair care" that was originally intended for horses. i have used it on the dogs and on the llamas. it has a silicone base and makes the coats shiny. if you have burs, you spray it on, let it sit for a minute or two and the knots and burs will slide right out. i use it on tuffy's mane and tail all the time. :)
