just an idea ive felt the need to put out here, since the frag swaps coming up:

are we going to setup a donation area and bins for clothes non-perishables and bottled water?

just feel we should do something to help out, since we wont see any international help.

thanks

I'm not sure about any of the other disaster relief org's ,but red cross is asking that people only make cash donations.

Link on donating goods (http://www.redcross.org/article/0,1072,0_312_4498,00.html)

Online donations (https://give.redcross.org/?hurricanemasthead)

Good plan on donations. I think everyone should step back figure out what they can donate and do it. People coming together and helping out is what this country is about.

As far as other countries helping out. I know of two that has offered a tremendous amount of help but the goverment declined the offer feeling that it would complicate things. Do not be to hard on the other countries not wanting to help. There has been a lot of offers.

There is actually a fair amount of international aid that has been pledged.

Kuwait just offered $500 million. Looks like they remember what we did for them.

Qatar has offerred 100 million. India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia have offered to help as they were some of the countries that were devasted my the tsunami and we helped. I have read there has been as many as 50 countries that have offered support/aid.

The link below has a good synoposis of the info I have read in other places, even Castro is offering to help

I was one of the cynics that thought the worldwide support would be very limited. I think most places thought this was just another hurricane which would cause some damage, but nothing we couldn't handle ourselves. As the extent of devasation has become apparent, more countries are seeing that any help they offer is both needed and appreciated.

Cuba is one of if not the best medical teaching stations in the world. Would be nice to see the people in NO get the best medical services possible.

If you're planning on donating, before you donate, find out if your employer matches. If so, your donation could mean a lot more if you go through the proper channels.

I know May Company(well now Federated) is matching for us at work.
