I'm working on building my canopy and the hinge selection at home depot looked pretty wimpy. Where can I find a better selection of hinges and what style should I use? I will probably have the whole front piece flap up as well as the top hinged to swing up.

We just used 8 smaller hinges for the whole front of my canopy and it works great. You can see it when you come by for the sand.

My lowes has hinges that will work great on a front door.....they swing the door up and hold it up to I think 120 degees.

I would suggest Lowes. They have a wide selection of spring loaded cabinet door hinges that allow for zero clearance. When open the will swing the door out wide and then hold it up. Since you are going to be holding a door open vertically instead of horizontally, you are probably going to have to experiement with how many hinges are going to be needed to hold your door open. Mine took 5 hinges but my door is a 7 foot long 1 x 8.

Good luck.

That's what I'd reccomend. We have two of them on our canopy (its split in the middle so the entire front doesnt have to open. They were about $8 each at Home Depot and Lowes.

Definitely piano hinges. I got a 72" Nickle Plated one from HD, and cut it down to 48" for my canopy. Looks great and works great.

Beware of nickle plated hinges. Most likely the hinge pin is just plain steel.

In that case, wouldnt they ALL have steel pins? Fancy hinges, but cheap pins.

Not to change the subject and this thread is a couple days old.........what about other door fasteners like the magnetic type? My hinges are on the outside so I do not see a rust problem but the clips that I use to secure the doors end up rusting - any marine type alternatives that anyone knows of?

I use these for catches. Just counter sink them into the wood & secure with epoxy.

Any idea how the latches attach? Looks like Glue, do not know if that would last. I am hoping with stainless.
