Hello Dr Ron,

I was wandering if you could help identify the algae in thread below. This was originally posted in the reef discussions but no too many bites...Thanks!!

Hello all....I have a black microalgae that seems to covere two pieces of live rock. It's stayed in the same place for about three weeks. It hasn't spread and it hasn't died either. It's very hard to peel up. You have have to almost try to scrape it off to get any type of progress with it. It's black mostly. Any ideas of what it could be? All my parameters seems to be normal. I have a refugium to suck up nitrates and my phosphates are 0. I use all RODI waer. I will say though, it isnt spreading, its just staying tin the same spot. I appreciate any help....

Hi,

Thanks for the images, but I will have to ask you to use an image editor of some sort to indicate what is the material you are describing. There is a lot of "black" in that image and most of it looks like shadows.

:D
