This guy is for sale on Reefscience.com. What the heck kind of tank would you need for this guy? Wouldn't he need to go to a public aquarium?

They might be happy in around a 500,000 gallon tank... maybe.

I have seen wholesalers fill orders with inapproprate animals just so they can say they filled them and deliver to the LFS.There is one here in town one day that got a 3 ft blacktip reefshark in stead of the 10 yellow tangs they wanted. Maybe he got it by mistake I would hope anyway. I don't think Chad would by those sort of creatures.

They can only grow up to 78".
That is 6 feet 6 inches.
Anything for a buck I guess.
Who cares if it dies.

I saw that and was pretty appauled.
I don't know why they can't let things in the ocean that don't do well in captivity or get too big.

Really sucks to know that folks would mess with this. Especially if you've seen them in the wild. Very graceful. That's pathetic.

There was a boat in Wassaw Sound in Savannah the other day that had one of these jump in the boat accidentally. They were fishing but the ray was not hooked. It was just a fluke. They had seen it jumping before they got the BIG surprise.

It took all three people on board, giving everything they had, to get this 6 foot wide beast out of the boat.

I cant imagine trying to keep it happy in a tank....of any size really.

Well, no one has bought this guy yet.

I dont know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. :(

Thats a shame, they are so beautiful out in the ocean. My favorite experience scuba diving was when a Manta swam over me. These animals belong in the sea, IMO, the vendor should be fined.

If I'm not mistaken, that tank is only a few thousand gallons tops. Maybe 5000 on the high side.

Its very tall and along. Not deep (front to back).

Unless they have built another one since I've been there last.

something special to see those big rays free jumping. I had a few put on a 15 minute show the other day. Granted we were a hundred miles offshore when we saw this. The power they have is off the charts.

Hmmm looks like they upgraded their tank to a 20,000 gallon tank...

Okay, maybe I was off on my estimate of the size of that tank....way off actually. But that is the same tank. Its basically a wall of fake reef. There are some cool fish but I thought it was pretty simple. Maybe I'm just critical.

I still think that ray would have a hard time turning around in less than 6'. But the 53' length should be nice.
