i have a 125 wide, which is 72" long, 24" wide, and 17" deep. i have two 250w metal halides. i just set it up and i am getting my new hamilton 14k bulbs on monday. other than that, im just going to add two 65w pc actinics for dusk and dawn. would you say this is enough light to grow most sps or only the basics, grow lps like mad or just normal. this is the first ive delt with mh and i dont know what to expect. i have a 29g with 240w of pc on it and everything including lps is growing like mad. so give me an idea of where im at please

note in the pic, the only bulb on is one 10k bulb that came with the fixture, the other one broke.

since it's only 17" top to bottom it's not as bad, i would spread the lihgs out a little more, unles all your corals are in the middle of the tank.

I still think you would need one more MH on that 72" long tank.

First thing let me say, I love your tank! One of my LFS has one of those "shallow wide" tanks and they look awesome! More horizontal swimming area for the fishies and I think that's more important anyway!

If you keep the reef centered so it doesn't go all the way to the end of the tank you should be just fine. I think that looks a little cleaner myself so having it open on the ends will allow you to get away with 2 MH fixtures instead of 3.

250w over a 17" tank should be just fine for nearly anything.

thanks all for reassuring me that i didnt buy too weak of a light. as for the empty ends, im going to leave them empty for now, but later on i may put in a little rock and have some fast growing low light coral.

btw, the lights are on the outside end of the reflectors and go down the reflector for like 7 or so inches.

The MH are nice, but I would spread them out a bit.
