Looking for identification of this snail. So far it has only been seen on dead/decaying materials. It is about the size if a grain of rice. Thank you, Dustin

Looks like one of the marginellid snails that circulates in the hobby under the name of peppermint snails. I have a few that lasted through 3 years scavenging on the rockwork.

Hi,

It is Hyalina albolineata, as Gene has indicated these are snails in the taxonomic group called the marginellidae. Most of these animals are micropredators or scavengers. This particular species is common in the Caribbean and makes its way into reef tanks in any number of ways. It is harmless in a well kept tank with a good sand bed.
