is it possible to mount a little giant 4-mdqx or a mak4 vertically? if so i am going to use the mak4 since it draws like half the power of the little giant, and it's way smaller..

Yup, shouldn't be a problem at all...might want to check with manufacturer first though.

I believe IWAKI makes those pumps. Great company!

Little Giant makes Little Giant. Little Giant makes pond pumps and chemical transfer pumps. The chemical transfer pumps are what are used for aquariums. They now offer 'Quarium series that are made for aquarium hobby. They are pretty good pumps, but for the money, you can probably find something a little more powerful and quieter. These pumps run great for about seven years then start to whine.

MAK in made by Gen-X, who uses Pacific Imports as their disrtibutor. These are the pumps I prefer. Cheap but dependable, and about as quiet as any other pump I've tried.
