Hey,

Does anyone have any experience with Cherub Angelfish? I have been told that for my 20g long, the only dwarf angel that would thrive in my system would be a cherub. Are they completetly reef- safe? I have SPS and a big colony of Zoos. THere is plenty of swimming space in my tank, and I haver a true perc clown and a scooter blenny.

Thanks in Advance,

CJ

Hey cj basser - Cherub and bicolor angels are not fully reef safe. I"ve had just a bad experienced with bicolor angel and I don't want you to have the same. It pick on my brain, candy, acan, and some of my zoos. Please avoid Angels, it is not fully reef safe.I will have my Bicolor angel in my Fish only tank.

Check with Serdar. He's pretty good at getting angels that don't pick on stuff. He'll hold them until they're healthy and he's sure they won't pick on anything before he'll sell them also.

We bought a Cherub (Dwarf) Angel about a month ago and we have had no problems. They are hit or miss. You are going to get yes and no on your question, its only a decision you can make as they are all different. They do like lots of rock that they can hide in and graze on for micro algea.

Yeah, awhile back Serdar said he has had good luck with Cherubs. At first, i really didn't like Cherubs, but then I saw a gorgeous one at the Petland on Lewis Center.

Bi-Colors I do not usually recommend for reefs as they do not have the best track record. On the other hand Cherub(Argi) is pretty much the safest dwarf angel you could put in your tank along with the Potters and Flameback.

Picapet- You really have 2 dwarf angels in a 10g?

From what i have read, Cherubs will stay the smallest? How big do the flamebacks get?

OOOOPS what i meant was a cherub and a bi-color blenny... so sorry to confuse.

Cherub = 3.1"
Flamebacks = 2.8"

Those sizes are per Scott W. Michaels "Marine Fishes"
(Best handbook I have found)

When we were looking most flames were about 4" and the cherubs are about 3" I wouldn't go with a flame in a 20l. A cherub would be just about right. Ours is just great to watch. I will try to get pics up here shortly.

Flameback Angel and Flame Angel are different fish from my understanding though.

thebrian- Yeah, your right. The flame angel is a brilliant red with black sripes and purple highlights. The flameback has a red "flame" on its back.
