If you use the larger Seios, be warned they can really do some damage to larger fish. My purple tang go trapped on the intake for a couple of hours and I was sure he was a goner when I got him off. Now he's up and swimming again, so I had to do something. So, I bought a 2" PVC coupling, cut it in half, put a longitudinal cut in it, and slipped it over the Seio body just in front of the intake grates. This way, there's a spacer so he can't get sucked onto the unit and should be able to free himself next time. Should work OK judging by the way he got stuck and all, and only $0.58 invested!

That is bad. I am getting ready to install a 1500 (or whatever the big one is) and I already have an 1100 in there.

I don't fully understand how you fixed yours. Can you take a picture?

He was stuck on the top (actually the side of the Seio) against the flat portion and the intake. The white ring creates a space near the intake so a fish cannot get pinned against the intake and should be able to free itsself. These 1500s create a lot of suction and are able to create a vortex and draw air several inches below the water level. You should have let me known, Mel, as I have a 1100 for sale.

My freaking smallest seio (810?) has to be several inches below the water otherwise it sucks air. They sure are powerful.

Dave, I thought you sold all of your seios already anyways. I might take that 1100 off your hands, but I am totally strapped for money (esp with the salt order coming up). If someone else offers to buy it that's fine, otherwise I will check back with you in a month or so (UT only pays me once a month).

I've been wanting a Seio for a while now. Mel, do you want it? If not, I'm interested. PM me the price Dave. Thanks

The seem to create more vortexes than a Tunze. I forgot to switch off my Tunze when doing a semi large waterchange and it never sucked any air, of course I got it off before the water was way low but if it woulda been a seio It'd have been sucking air.

Donny, no problem, go ahead.

thanks for the picture Dave, that looks like it will work well for a larger fish. Matt's 1500 is a snail graveyard though - they go up top to feed on the hair algae growing up there, never to return. It's pretty scary looking actually.

I had my orange star get stuck on the intake of my 820. It is fine now, but it looked pretty bad for a while...

Its weird my snails crawl all over my 820 and never get stuck. They also go on the Tunze and don' t get stuck. Maybe I have super snails.

It's only the 1500 and 1100 models I've had problems with.
