View Full Version : Salt order

EvilMel

Hey guys, so we can order salt the old way if we can get 36 buckets sold. So how many buckets would everyone be willing to take? I even suspect that we might be able to get more than 36 sold.

I'm in for 6.

Fishboy42
08/16/2005, 08:44 AM
10 for me please!

-Matt

Thanks for starting this up Mel, as I really need the salt too. If anyone else needs salt and we end up having more than the 36, I can give up a few buckets though...

EvilMel

Awesome 16 already!

Matt you and I can always transfer buckets between each other if we get low later on anyways.

You guys are saltaholics! I'll go at least one, maybe 2.

EvilMel
08/16/2005, 07:19 PM
I'm actually going to take 7. So that's a total of 33 if evveryone takes their minimum.

So go ahead and start mailing/paypalling me the money and we will get this going ASAP. Let me get the totals together and I will message you with exactly how much you owe. Ok, with everyone?

If you need one or two more (or you want your max instead of your min) you had better speak up now.

I'll take 2.

Do we know how much each bucket is going to be yet? I'm getting near done with the fish room and will likely need a few buckets as well.

Mel

put me down for not 2, not 4,

BUT 3

Eddie

EvilMel
08/16/2005, 08:03 PM
Fred: The buckets will be $35 each plus I will calculate paypal fees and send a total around to each person.

Eddie: ok 3 then. That's 36.

Here's a thought also guys, if everyone wants more buckets then we might be able to get two orders. If we all take our maximum plus let's say Fred get's 4, then we are 8 buckets into another order already with a bunch of club members not having responded yet. What do you think? Want to go for 2 orders? I really think we could do it.

SmartWrasse
08/16/2005, 08:10 PM
1 is enough for me now.

RCS
08/16/2005, 08:22 PM
It's not a problem at all if you have enough to get the order and I'm left out. I've still got 400-500 gallons of mix left. This was only a day too right? I think you may get quite a few more yet to come...

Also, what about upping the ante with the SETN/NGA club? I'll likely be down that way and back a few times and would be willing to truck some salt with me.

EvilMel
08/16/2005, 09:27 PM
Yeah Fred: that's a great idea actually. Thanks! I would say that we will pretty easily be able to get 2 orders. I'll go post in their forum.

Ok Scott: 1.

Mel, last time we did this PA said they'd do $35 in groups of 24 so that gives us the ability to do a 48 bucket order. I dont remember if Kent would do 36 minimum + 12 per pallet additional amounts or not. At least PA would give us another target amount if Kent wont.

Good idea Don, I will call and ask about 2 pallets (48 buckets worth).

Great John!

Thanks Mel and Don, good idea, can definitely take more salt if needed!

imsqueak

Mell, I think they are 12 to a skid. ie the ability to do quantities of 24, 36, 48...

EvilMel
08/17/2005, 06:26 PM
Previously the company we get it from told me that the 36 bucket order is actually a pallet and a half. So apparently they sell them in pallets of 24. But to be honest, I'm not sure and you could be totally right as you deal with that stuff a whole lot more than me.

We get Kent for $35 per bucket.

EvilMel
08/17/2005, 09:03 PM
I actually posted about it in you guys' forum, but yeah like Scott said...$35 for Kent buckets that will each make up about 200g saltwater.

I use to use Kent but moved to oceanic once when the local pet store ran out and love it...

Thanks for the offer, but I'm going to pass.

I'm planning on driving up this weekend to the meeting hope to see you all there.

Can I get in on this deal? I'm not sure if the offer is still going. :D
I wouldn't mind trying one bucket..I use IO primarily. Tried Oceanic and didn't like the Ca or Alk params.
Never once have tried Kent :D

Sure, you can get in on it 2639. I will put you down for 1.

Can anybody else take more? Is anyone willing to take their maximum listed? Don? hah hah.

Fred do you want some?

imsqueak
08/18/2005, 05:37 PM
I count 40. It may be easier to drop to 36 than make it to 48. If I drop to 4, Matt to 8, and Mel to 6 we're finished and ready to order. Just a suggestion...

Next order of business: where you gonna deliver it? Havent seen Graham around since the last salt order. I may be able to ask a neighbor near my work if we can receive it there but I have no way of moving it from there to where ever.

EvilMel
08/19/2005, 10:00 AM
Actually Don, I can drop to 4 so Matt can stay at 10. He needs more salt than any of us. Plus Brent was asking me why I was buying so much anyways. Let me make a final tally tonight and I will get back with you guys.

EvilMel
08/19/2005, 01:07 PM
Good news guys! Don was right, Premium Aquatics can get us the salt in lots of 24 for $35 each bucket including free shipping. So we can just order either 36 or 48. I will have to talk to a couple of people and find out exactly how many they want before we are able to actually place the order but I will let everyone know tomorrow at the reef meeting what their totals will be and you guys can just give me checks.

Anyone I don't see at the meeting, I will PM a total to and they can either mail me a check or send me the mail through paypal (plus paypal fees so I don't personally have to incur everyone's paypal fees).

2639
08/19/2005, 01:11 PM
Why not simply order the 48 and whatever is left over, use as door prizes or offer them for sale at the next meeting?

EvilMel
08/19/2005, 01:20 PM
Because we order it off my credit card and not out of the reef fund.

Our club actually doesn't have a treasury large enough to cover even a 36 bucket order, so I am just doing this myself as a member of the club not as an officer or anything.

2639
08/19/2005, 01:25 PM
Very cool of you ;) I'm still in for ONE bucket I'm a definte buyer. I haven't seen this yet but how are we all gonna settle up? just reimburse you when we see you or can you take PayPal?
Once again: VERY COOL OF YOU.

EvilMel
08/19/2005, 01:44 PM
So what we usually do is to have people do one of two things:
a) paypal me with an additional $1-$1.50 per bucket for paypal fees,
b) send me a check.

It's really up to the person how to pay. I don't have a preference BUT if everyone did paypal me (which they won't) then Premium Aquatics will take paypal as payment. Like I said though, some people don't have a paypal account and aren't going to get one. It's no big deal to me either way though, ya know?

Pterois2004
08/19/2005, 03:14 PM
Am I too late? If so, I can see if a group around Chattanooga wanna go in on an order with Premium Aquatics too.

Let me know if you have room for 1 or 2 more buckets.

Angela

EvilMel
08/19/2005, 03:38 PM
I think there is no problem with that Angela. Just tell me if you want one or two and we can accomodate you, no problem.

EvilMel
08/19/2005, 10:04 PM

Charles = 2
Mike T. = 1
Eric = 2
Fred = 2
Scott = 1

Hello everyone. Here's the list I have of how many buckets people want.

Mel/EvilMel 5
Matt/fishboy42 12
Dave A./commiphora 1
Art/awcurl 2
Eddie/Tri-max 6
Don/imsqueak 5
Charles/easttn 2
Mike T. 1
Eric/fry-man 2
Scott/Runner 1
John L./pico66 3
Angela S. 2
Andy/2639 1
Angela/Pterois 2
Mike H/Mfasafish 1

There are still a good number of people who need to pay for the salt and I am not placing the order til I get everyone's money, so if you have not paid please do so. Last time I got stuck with 2 extra buckets because I placed the order early and someone decided not to get salt. I hope you guys understand.

I'm counting 46 buckets here... If you need 2 more, I'd be happy to take them and I can give you a check right away. If you are good with the present count, then don't worry about it...I'll get some with the next order.
Thanks

Yea everyone divy up I am down to one last water change left in my bucket. I am excited about trying a new kind.

2639
08/24/2005, 03:12 PM
Someone tell me if they use two or three kinds...do you mix the brands or alternate the brands?

EvilMel
08/24/2005, 03:17 PM
I have heard that it is best to slowly transition to a new salt, meaning that you do several very small water changes over time to acclimate the tank to the new stuff.

With that said, I have, in my earlier reefing days (when I did everything wrong), switched back and forth with no transition several times and not seen any ill effects. I have also been told that I am lucky in this regard.

2639
08/24/2005, 03:36 PM
hmmm..that kinda answers my question cause if you mix the brands, you are in essence transitioning...simply change the ratio everytime until you are 100% using one or the other. Thanks :D

Angela Short
08/24/2005, 04:56 PM
i have always read to find one you like and stick to it also. I have went from IO to oceanic back to IO now to kent cause I am not crazy about IO and can't afford oceanic. I had no ill effects either but the transition was done in the form of small water changes.

stevensmd
08/25/2005, 07:12 AM
I used to have major PH issues when I bought my salt at Petsmart (Coralife)....I assumed that there was no way it could be the salt....once I switched to Kent, I have had NO problems!
FWIW...
