I am getting ready to build a diy fuge and was wondering where can I get some macro. I already have about ten punds of live sand as well as twenty pounds of live rock. All I need is some macro. Thanks

there are a lot of macro's out there that could be put in a fuge BUT there are a lot of species that shouldnt be in a fuge (let alone) main display.

i think a lot of reefers would agree the macro of choice is chaetomorpha. it grows like rosie odonnels beard under moderate to strong light 5500k to 6500k.

it doesnt stick or bind to substrate or rock...but is easily harvested and given to fellow reefers.

also, i have been reading some threads of the other macro's, mainly caulerpa's, going sexual...which means that the plant germinates, releases spores and withers...in your system. not a good thing by the way!;)

I'm with Bergzy on being careful of what macro to use. Go with Chaetamorpha(aka, wire weed or spaghetti alage). It's very hardy and grows fast under the right lights and will not go sexual on you(fowling your tank) if you decide to go with a reverse lighting cycle to save on your electric bill.

i was thinking of a 24 hour light cycle. or a twelve on twelve off.

12 on 12 off is fine using chaetamorpha. Keep the macro lit during the night while your tank lights are off.

Keeping your fuge lit at night will keep your PH from falling. I would also recommend chaeto. Caulerpa going sexual will make your tank look like pea soup.
