just curious; I tinker with them for other uses. and got me thinking.
I know of some LEDs that put out 120lumens at 5500k. they would need to be mounted to an actively cooled heatsink I think(these are not your typical cool LEDs).
but their 20bucks a pop, and it looks like a 100w metal halide bulb is about 2000lumens; meaning your at like 18 per 100w, or about 400$ per "100 watts".
anyway; its not cost effective, but I still think itd be interesting. on the plus side, gotta love that it would run for 22 years(12 hours a day) without changing though.
