I was wondering if it is possible to enlarge the top of an acrylic 40 gal breeder [ top is 1/4" thick] which is currently 6 1/2" x 22" to 9" x 22" with out causing any problems? I was planning to add either an Euro-reef 6-2 or ASM G-2/3 skimmer. Will the opening be large enough to fit either skimmer through?
I figure the new sump will at most have 10" of water. The height of the tank is 18". Should add an another piece of 1/4" acrylic and bond it to the top after I cut the top to size to serve as reinforcement?
