Is two skimmers set up with a timer for 12 hours a day the same as one going 24 hours

This would solve some noise problems as my tank is in my room.

Could I hook a timer up to two?

I might be getting a pair if skimmers, its a 55 gallon.

I've found that after having my skimmer off for several hours it can take up to a day to get it skimming good again. I believe by switching back and forth you'd find that neither skimmer is really doing much.

Why not go with a quieter skimmer like a needlewheel? If you need a HOB the Coralife Super Skimmers are very quiet although they do have a rather large footprint in the tank. Big Al's has the best prices I've seen.

Water sitting in a skimmer for 12 hours has a chance of becoming toxic...... I would not do this.
