Cleaning an Old Skimmer

I have an old skimmer that I am unable to get into to fully clean it out. "yes, it was put up without cleaning as I was frustrated with it". it has deposits in it. how do I clean it out before using on a new small tank.

try a good hot water bath to clean out any loose deposits and then give it a good vinegar bath.
