All I purchased a SEIO M820 and it is suppose to produce 820gph I believe but it seems as if my maxijet 1200 produced more flow than this thing. I made sure it was turned all the way up, but could this be because of such wide outlets nad more ditributed flow? Anyone I purchased one of these to replace 3 maxijets that was on a wave time and put this on a timer so that it comes on with my MH bulbs but I am not sure I am happy with it and do not know if I should return it or not.

im gonna be getting one soon,

they are not supposed to produce strong pinpoint flow like the maxijets, but rather a wide gental wall of moving water- thats what its all about-

I understood that but it just seems so light for 820gph. The tail sign will be if it benefits my corals any and cut down on temp in my tank as I had 3 maxijets on a wavemaker. If it does I will have 3 maxijets and a red sea wavemaker for sale barely used.

I had the first hand chance to feel the Flow of a Seio 820gph Pump and your right they dont seem to push much ,but from I was told thats the way its works best for all corals in indirect Water Flow .The one he showed had the 90% Cap off an was bare pump pushing straight out ,have you tried that?.Im also thinking of getting a couple of the 820 seio's.

The MJs have a smaller diameter opening and therefore need to push more water out to get the same volume as the SEIO. SEIOs and Tunzes are better because they create gentle flow. I love my SEIO M820.

I have never used a MJ but have 2 820's in my 75g and love the flow I get from them and so does my SPS.

These pumps suck and I should have known. Mine just quit on me and it is a fairly long drive to take it back.

you are turning it of and on these pumps are made to run 24/7

I just got an 1100 and I love mine. I had 3 maxi 12 and still do, setting opposite of the seio they dont stand a chance.
I cut my seio off at feeding time and it starts right back up. It is a little noisey at start and it some times creates a vortex from the surface and blows air ( I have it too close to the surface I think) but all in all I wish I had just bought a second one of the seios instead of the 3 1200s

Well calling the manufacturer they said no problem with it being on a timer and coming on for 12 hours out of the day. They said as long as it was not connected to a wave devices turning it on and off multiple times every couple of minutes. I think something was wrong with this one out of the box anyway. I will just return it and get my money back and stick with the old maxijets that have been running on the wave timer for over a year with no problems.

I like my SEIO and will possibly buy more. I also have Tunze, so I know both. For the money, SEIOs turn out a lot of water - and with better flow patterns than traditional powerheads.

My SEIO has had trouble a few times when trying to restart. I have to jiggle the impeller for it to start spinning again. That seems to be a fairly common experience.

I would not run a SEIO on a timer. After all the stories from others, it does not seem wise. A search should turn up several threads on that matter.

I no know for sure no one in TAAM will tell you that, who did you talk to.
It said in the instructions and there is a label on the cord stated DO NOT USE ON ANY ON/OFF TIMER.

I did not get a name unfortunately. Like I said I think something was wrong with this one out of the box. Not to mention when I took it out of my tank it smelled like something was burnt.

You should return it and get a new one.

As far as I know these pumps are very well build. You can't burnt them out even if you lock up the pump.

i just put two of the SEIO M620s in my 150g reef expecting them to create enough flow. They dont. So now i think im gonna step it up to two 1500s and see if that does it.

I have 2 Seios 1100's in my 75 and they work great.

I'm using 2 1500's on my 70 and I love it! I replaced 2 620's which were great but had the restart issue. On my 1500's I can stop and start w/o any hassles. I think the bigger motor fixes that.

The 620s won't cut it on a tank that size - the 1500s will be a lot better.

being thinking of buying a Seio for a while, what size on a 65 Gallon does evrybody think would be appropriate? the tank is only 3 ft long, It is a LPS/softies tank

Deadmullet, I would think 820's or 1100's would work.

I had 1500's on my 90 and they worked well.

I would go at least 1100's. We have the same size tank and I'm using the 1500's. I'm mostly softies with only a couple monti's and one other. If you would find that it was too much then you can dial back but you can't make them go faster than thier specs. Since they move the water differently than regular powerheads, it's not the beating water impact you would expect for a 1500. Otherwise, no one could buy even the smallest Tunze stream unless they had hundreds of gallons.

Are you blowing them at the font glass or just from side to side?

I have Xenia completly covering one side wall of my tank, and i dont think they are going to like getting pummuled 24/7 by this powerhead 3' away.

but i may be wrong, what do you think?

Here is a bad pic of my setup, I was thinking on replacing the powerhead you see there now. It only runs for 20 seconds then turns off for 30-40seconds but the water force is just to extreme IMO.that is why it is pointed to the front glass, but it is still pretty severe.

I have mine at 45 toward the front glass with no downward angling to them. They don't quite point at the same spot on the front but close. I have anthelia growing up the back of one side and the fist couple days they looked like they were being stretched toward the back of the seio. They adjusted and seem a little more squat but very thick and looking good. In the very front I have yellow polyps that flow back and forth. They really perked up when I increased the flow.

I took it back and got a new one. There was something definately wrong with the first one. This one blows alot harder than the last one. The guy at the store actually asked me if I wanted a different one because he said alot of them were coming back think it was a bad batch or something. This one is working fine lets hope it continues months to come.
