I just got my 180g: Cleaned up, in house and on stand. I got a good deal on a used system, Tank, stand, canape, & 65g sump. But it came without a return pump. The overflow has a single 2" drain with I think a 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" return, Anyway I have been looking at pumps and I am interested in the Dolphin Amp Master 2100 or the Sequence Dart, these two pumps look to have the same specs I was wondering if I could get some opinions on these pumps, Likes and dislikes and what would be the beter choice

Thanks in advance

Stay away from the dolphin. Go with the Sequence.

Trey I would purchase a Sequence pump before anything else. But really they are best used as closed loop pumps.

There is a thread or two on the amount of flow through your sump.

The general thought is to get 3 to 5 times turn over in the sump and do the rest with a closed loop.

You can also look through the threads by looking for Sequence and there is lots of information on them. They are a very well designed pump that is quiet and flows a great deal of water at a good price plus they cost less to run.

Thanks for the reply phlipper, What's up with the Dolphin's - what don't you like about them and is there another pump I should consider even other the the Sequence Dart?

Besides everyone complaining of the seals and leaks, I had an AMP 3000 that would not start up after a shut down. Actually had to physically turn the shaft with my finger to get it to start.

Hey Jester,

THanks for the info, I was considering doing a closed loop but was unsure of the benefits, I didn't even think about the amount of flow through the sump to be around 3 to 5 gph. If I did a closed loop what size and brand pump would be good for the return if I went with sequence dart for the CL

Thanks

sounds like an isolated, defective pump. I have an Amp3000 that I love. The only people that I know that have had leak issues run theirs with no strainers, and have fine sand bottoms with no prefilter on the pump inlet. JMHO.

Not 3 to 5 gallons lol 3 to 5 turn over of the tank volume. At 5 times you would be right at about 900gph. There is a huge thread on this just do a search and you will find lots of info.
