Hi-

Just upgraded my equipment with a sump and skimmer, and am wondering how loud the return pump should be. I know it is all relative, but should you be able to hear the pump over the overflow noise, or the PS for that matter?

Not sure if I got a bad one. I made sure it is not touching any walls on the sump and it is attached to the floor with the rubber feet.

Any tips for an idiot that doesnt know what he is doing?

Tx.

i have a similar problem with a rio pump for a 60 gallon. got the equipment used from my sister. it worked really quiet for a couple days until i accidently ran it dry when i had some water levelling problems.
i unplugged it for a while and will plug it back in later. maybe the insides have to reseat themselves.
i also pad the bottom of it with white filter padding. it prevents some vibration.

You might try unplugging the pump and restarting it. Sometimes air gets trpped in the pump and makes it loud.
