I have a pair of percs and a yellow watchman goby that have ich. I have read up a bit on treatment from the RC forum, but just wanted some locals opinions on how to treat it and where to get the goods.

I just finished making a DIY acrylic tank that will eventually be a sump to use as the QT. I plan on only putting in a powerhead and a few pieces of PVC for some hiding spots. It will hold just over 6 gallons.

I plan on lowering the salinity a bit and raising the temp to about 82, but what medications should I use?

Any other advice is appreciated.

I would just soak their food in garlic and skip the hostpital tank.

I have never had luck with a hospital tank. I have not lost a fish to Ich unless I had them in QT. Almost every tang I got show some signs of ich when first introduced ot my tank. Keep the stress down, feed them good foods with Selcon. Some have had luck with garlic some have not. It really did not seem to make a difference in my case.

Many times the fish will be able to fight it off if you keep them eating and stress free.

I have had a minor breakout in my tank... do others think this is the way to go? I have little chance of getting the mandarin that has ich out of my tank so I would like to try this first. I am also using Marine Max. I know it isn't suposed to be a sure fire cure, but I'd love to hear some more opinions. When do you say there is too much Ich and they HAVE to be moved? ANYTHING reguarding an in reef treatment woud be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

If it comes down to treating (and the garlic thing likely wont work with a mandarin- itll be near impossible to get it to eat the stuff), then I would first reccomend pulling the fish out and treating it in another tank- most reefsafe meds just arent strong enough. That being said, if you need to treat a reef, Kent makes a med called RxP (I think thats right) which is reefsafe except for echinoderms, so yould have to pull any starfish, sand dollars, urchins, etc out of the tank. 2 week treatment- Ive had some success with it.
