Def. not a sohal, not an atlantic blue, not a blue tang.

Def. is a brisstle tooth of some type. Judging from the pic, I would guess Ctenochaetus striatus the Striped Bristletooth. The blue spot at the base of the fin is a giveaway.

Attractive fish but pales after just a few weeks when the fish reaches a length of 5 cm. Good fish for eating diatoms.

I totally agree, a Ctenochaetus for sure. I've never seen one this color before but the shape of the genus is unmistakable.

I agree with this guy...there are alot of these coming through the trade right now. As a matter of fact, when I saw the tiltle this fish came to mind before I even opened it because alot of people have been asking the same questions.

The suppliers are sending these as clown or sohal tangs for the sole purpose of billing.

yanno my supplier told me he has some "clown like tangs" that he only sees every 5 or so years.

Sounds like Ctenochaetus flavicauda, but the Tomini tang Ctenochaetus tominiensis, also has a white tail.

I looked a while online and found another common name for it
Thompson's Bristletooth
I'll get a picture

OMG!! I CANT BELIEVE IT.. its called a Dussemerri Tang.. Acan family I think.. Dont believe its a bristletooth!... I love these tangs.. they look simular to sohals in body shape.. but possess those really mean characteristics!... Youll LOVE this guy! they have awsome color and are very active.. but get VERY LARGE!... so be prepared to find him a BIG OL' HUGE HOME! :)

Unless we dont have a better picture it is hard to say, but I am affraid all the Acanthurs voters are wrong. I would bet on Ctenochaeatus .. there is a picture of this on in the Surgeon Fish book of Kuiter. It is listed there as ctenochaeatus cf .... and I dont remewber which one ...

Le Project and Peter are right...;)

C.cf striatus.

the one that ezhoops posted , pic is blurry but my guess is C.flavicauda, not a tomini.

I'm almost 100% sure that my tang is a white tail bristlemouth

here's why; according to

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/tangshi.htm

Acanthurus thompsoni (Fowler 1923), the White-Tailed Surgeonfish, a good name for this species except for its populations in Hawaii which bear no white on their tail areas. Another name for this planktivore is Thompson’s Surgeonfish. Though not a striking beauty, this Whitetail tang is a good feeder and stays moderate small (to ten inches). Rarely imported into the trade.
