hello,

i'm having a bit of a problem with loud water gurgling in my piping. the problem is where the water drains from the refugium. if you look at the picture, you'll see a bulkhead with a drainer that lets the water drain into the sump.

the problem is that since the water level is about halfway up the bulkhead (the bulkhead isn't submerged in the water) i get this loud gurgling sound.

any ideas on how to stop it?

I suppose that you could remove the strainer and replace it with what would essentially be a durso standpipe top section, should should quiet it down.

The problem is your long horizontal run before the water drops. Try replacing the elbow that directs the pipe downward with a T and adding an end cap with an airhole ala durso.

Make sense?

Try adding an elbow to the bulkhead so that the intake is completeley submerged. From your pic it looks like one 90 degree elbow should do the trick. If not extend it another inch or so with some PVC.

I agree with gregg, basically, you'll have a Durso mod outside your refugium. Yes, with the end cap on the upward facing portion of the T. HTH!
