I did a search and found one place, they are out of buisness. Any of you folks have a link for a place that sell the strainers to put on my closed loop so I don't suck up my critters?

Are you looking for a strainer that screws into a bulkhead? Try www.savko.com

gas4544, No bulkheads. I will be putting the ampmaster pump on top of my canopy in the back corner and dropping the piping over the canopy back and straight into the tank from above. Should be relatively easy. I need the strainer on the pvc pipe that sucks the water out of the tank to run through the pump and on to the returns. My plan is to have 4 returns at different spots in the tank, maybe later I will get some sea swirls for one or two of the returns. For now just a simple system.

On my 1 1/2 pipe I just used a cap. I used my table saw and cut grooves in it. You could do the same thing with a drill, just put a bunch of holes in it.
Good luck.

Couldn't you use a threaded strainer with a threaded female adapter attached to the end of the PVC pipe?

gas and wickerj, both good ideas but I found exactly what I want over at Champion Lighting. They have 1.5" threaded intake screens that should work perfectly. Thnaks again for all the ideas.

I got my 1.5" threaded strainer from MarineDepot.com

By the way, Savko has the 1.5" strainer screen for $1.92. They also have some of the best prices on valves.

gas, I totally missed the strainers, I looked all over the site before I finally ordered from Champion Lighting and paid twice as much. What a bummer, but now I have the Savko site down well and will buy from them in the future :)

someone can jump in and correct me if im wrong, but youre plan wont work.the ampmaster cannot draw water up from below.the intake must below water level.

Organic,

I would assume he is filling the line full of water to create the inital siphon........

And yes that is correct, myreef has a nifty suggestion for starting the siphon on his website. I plan to follow those directions to get the siphon going.
