I'm setting up a 55G reef and I just got a CPR Twin back pack. I'm pretty sure I know the answer to my question is yes, but I wanted to double check. For a reef set up, do I take out that Blue Bio Bale stuff out? And if I do, can I put LR in there instead?

Thanks ya'll

Yeah take out the bio bale inside. I took it out of my back pac when i went reef and my nitrate went to 0 in about 2 days. Yes you can put live rock rubble in it but i might make it get pretty heavy?

i left mine in and my nitrates are usually at 0. but i am thinking of taking it out anyways. so much crud in it though im scared it might get into the tank now

Thank You!

If I put LR in there, I would only put a few light pieces or a few branches. Thanks for the info!

I also have the hang-on CPR. I have bioblocks in mine for 20G. But in my larger 120G, I mainly have live-rock and NO wet/dry. I've had it that way for years. JD

Great, thanks for the info. I started with a 12G nano about 10 months ago and I have already out grown it. There is a whole lot more to learn when you move on to something that isn't self-contained.

What do you gain by keeping LR in there? dumb question just want to be sure.

Live rock does all that biologicl filtration for you. Directly in the tank it is doing it, not in a plexiglass chamber conected to the aquarium. JD

Why wouldn't it be able to help your tank if he had rock in the Bak-Pak? If what you said held any truth, then the Bio-Bale that came with it wouldn't be able to aid the tank in biological filtration now would it?

Since I have no sump, I put my heater in the empty compartment, great fit and hides it from the tank. I suppose rock would work as well, but the heater thing is what I do.

By in there i ment the bak pak not the tank. its just i have the cpr bak pak and i didnt know if it was better to put live rock in the chamber.(better performance)
