Calcium hydroxide: it delivers calcium and alkalinity to your tank in balanced proportion.... AKA kalkwasser

yeah, some people actaully use this stuff to pickle veggies too! :D

That article covers the subject pretty well, IMO.

I use Mrs. wages in place of kalkwasser, but it makes pretty good pickles too. I like the sweet pickles though, and I can never get the amount of sugar right, so it is easier just to buy them from the store. :D

I kill aiptasia with it. Works pretty well.

Much cheaper than Kalk mix.

Since I happened to pick up one (really, just one) somehow, what is your method for killing them? Do you inject directly or just kind of blast the area?

Inject.

I was afraid you were going to say that. Mine is in a almost impossible spot to inject. The bottom front of the biggest rock (30 lbs.) on the very bottom of my rockwork, farthest away from my rear of the tank only access.. I guess I am going to have to get wet and hope for the best with a mirrow to guide me. :D Thanks for the info!

I picked one or two up as well and I was thinking about mixing up a small piece of marine epoxy...the 2 part stuff that is grey...and covering them with it instead of trying to inject. Seems easier and I don't know how they would survive being covered up.

Just a thought.

Hmmm, that is an interesting idea. I can probably get my finger into the space where it is and get a big piece of epoxy to cover the entire area. Maybe even epoxy a small rock frag so I wont see the epoxy. I think I will try that tonight. Thanks again! :D

I acutually just "feed" to the aiptasia and watch them melt away.

I have to order my Mrs. Wages pickling lime over the net, can NEVER find it in the store, is it a seasonal type of item or am I just looking in the wrong places?

Take a walk over to the kitchenwares in Wally World. It should be by the canning jars and other Mrs. Wages products. I believe I found mine in the same isle as the pots and pans.

I think if your trying to mess with that Kalkwasser stuff. Theres a easy way to do it with aragaMILK.

The exact ingredients for the AragaMilk aren't given in the pages I found, but I don't think it'll provide much calcium if it's dissolved aragonite, as implied. If the tank has a very low calcium demand, or you do a lot of water changes, it might be fine, but it could never keep up with the demand in my tanks. The solubility of calcium carbonate in water is just too low.
