I am currently helping my buddy setting up a 180, everything was going good but we seem not being able to eliminate the micro-bubble that coming from the return pump. We tried to put a sock on the return pipe, it help a lot with the big bubble but the small one still going through.

Here is a pix of his sump, he inherited it from someone else and I am not quite understand why it was design this way. Anyhow, any idea, comment that can help us eliminate this issue?

Thanks

Looks like part of a bubble trap but normally the traps are 3 baffels (over/under/over). Here's a great site with lots of sump designs and info.
