i use only two of the four sponges along with those media........
i know that the rock is supposed to handle bio. filtration but my tank is only 5 months old so i am worried about removing it.

Any thoughts........need help

There's not really anything you can do to avoid the bubbles. It gets air in it when you clean it. It has to blow the air out. I suppose you could try putting the outlet into your sump for a while to clear it or into a bucket then turn it off and reconnect everything ones the air is out.

Then do it into a bucket and then pour the bucketfull of water back into the tank after the bubbles are gone..

That or just live with the bubbles.

i've heard these bubbles can get trapped under plates and cause harm

you have enough rock you shouldnt have a problem with it. do you have a sand bed? if so how deep? are you using a protein skimmer?

If you have sufficient flow this shouldn't be a problem.
