I recently purchased a sedra 9000 for my ASM G4 to upgrade from the sedra 5000 that is included.

My question is for those that have upgraded how did you attach the 9000 (it's outlet is signifigantly higher)?

I fashioned efectively a u-tube using the 5000 elbow and another pvc elbow I had around, but was wondering if their might be a better way (I'm concerned about reducing the pumps power by pumping through the U that really I haven't done anything about increasing skimmers efficiency).

Thanks,

Dave

I placed 2-3 sheets of egg crate/ acrylic under the skimmer body until it was the same height as the pump. Cheap and effective.

Jason,

I don't know if I have the space in my sump to go that high...

That's what I originally thought I was going to do, but I have some signifigant height to make up.

Dave,
What about if you remove the suction cups at the bottom of the pump? I just double checked mine, it has 1 sheet of 1/2"(?) egg crate and 1 sheet of 1/4" acrylic. I also pushed the elbow down as far as it would go onto the pump body. Every cm counts 'cause space is at a premium under my stand as well.

Good luck.

Wow... just 3/4"....

I thought the height I needed was like 2-3".

Is there anyway you can get a pic of yours? Specifically the pump.

My Sedra 5000 sat on it's side (at least thats how it was designed)... The 9000 seems to sit on it's bottom (just where the suction cups are....

Can you change where the suction cups are by any chance?

I just tried to take a couple of pics but it's kind of hard to see into the sump. I am tearing my sump apart this evening and will try and get a couple shots for you.

Ideally you want about 1" of height under the skimmer to even things out.

I stuck with the U-tube... I've got fanstatic skimmate now... Much better than with the 5000....
