Hi, im brand new to the list. I have been playing around with reefs among other stuff for a few years now. Anyway I am looking for some technical information on HQI lamps. Do they have an optimal operational temperature? Would there be a change in spectral output if the bulbs were run at very low temperatures? Would there be a decrease in bulb life at very low temperatures? Thanks for helping me shed some light on this....terrible pun.....ben

well, reason i ask is that i custom fabricated a water jacket for a 250 HGI minipendant...completely closed modular system. System water temp rides at 85. Temperature is 92 2 inches from the bulb from radiant heat which is not picked up by the water. Just trying to find out if this thing is going to break or not....no need for a chiller when your IR input is negligeable, and less wattage of light needed due to light source being run closer to the water...
